URGENT APPEAL

The International Women’s Alliance (IWA) calls for support for the victims of typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan), the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines and the planet in recent history. Last 8 November 2013 typhoon Yolanda struck several islands in the Philippines killing thousands of people, leveling communities and numerous infrastructure, electrical, and telecommunication lines. Travel and communication has been made virtually impossible and the delivery of much needed relief rendered extremely slow.

Below is the appeal from GABRIELA Women’s Alliance, whose members on the ground–peasant women, women fisherfolk, indigenous women, have been severely affected.

In solidarity with the people of the Philippines, we join the call for the 13 November International Day of Solidarity and Action for the Victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

  1. Dear comrades I am very much sad for the people who were killed by the Hayan. I feel pain with the families who lost their beloved. We , the Palestinians, share all people who pass through tragic disasters, because we live it in occupied Palestine, our homeland , which we are not allowed to return to because Israel prevents us since 65 years ago. I and my family were crying when saw the catastrophe that beheld your people on TV. I hope and wish that those people who are displaced can find shelter and help from all around the world. Please extend my condolences to your people on behalf of my people and myself Comradely yours Leila Khaled Member of the Palestine National Council
